History of DecisionHR

DecisionHR,  started as OneStaff, Inc  in 1996, has  focused on providing superior human resource outsourcing services to small and medium sized businesses.  In 1999, the Company was awarded First Place as the “Best Startup” by the ProEmp Journal, an industry trade magazine.

In 1999, founding partners Peter VanSon and Billy Mills assumed strategic and operating leadership of the firm.  In 2006, DecisionHR merged with First Advantage Corporation (NASDAQ: FADV) who provides DecisionHR's clients with a robust portfolio of pre-employment screening tools and post-employment monitoring and training tools.

The Company has grown five-fold in the number of work-site employees, revenues, and profits since 1999. The Company has had strong cash flow that has enabled it to achieve its growth without debt. 

What is DecisionHR?

DecisionHR is an employer services provider company providing comprehensive outsourced management of payroll and human resource management for its clients’ employees.  The Company operates with its clients as a “co-employer” of the individual workers.

The employer services provider co-employer concept has developed as a combination of the simple outsourced payroll service business and the temporary staffing model.  DecisionHR has the legal, compliance, and administrative responsibility for the workers while the client company has the management and supervisory responsibility. This industry  focuses primarily on serving small to medium sized client organizations (10 to 1,000 employees) to whom  it can provide more comprehensive services and more sophisticated management at a lower cost. 

Because DecisionHR becomes an “employer of record” for its clients' workers, it can leverage  administrative management across a greater number of workers.  More importantly, it can aggregate workers compensation and unemployment insurance across a range of job classifications and a significantly greater population compared to each individual client.  This aggregation of risk gives DecisionHR superior purchasing power with the insurance companies and diversifies individual loss risks in a way that reduces overall insurance rates.  DecisionHR can pass along some of this cost savings to its clients. DecisionHR take an active role with their clients to provide safety consulting and training in the workplace, and to provide close management of workers compensation claims and unemployment claims in order to minimize the cost to their clients.

DecisionHR also offers small businesses  more sophisticated employee benefits than the individual business could offer alone.  It’s ability to aggregate employees from multiple clients lets it, in turn, offer more comprehensive health care, retirement savings, and other benefits that are often unavailable to small companies on a stand-alone basis.

A major trend driving more companies to use the  services of companies like DecisionHR  is the compliance burden of increasing government regulations.  Successful employer services companies become adept at managing these requirements and remove the administrative burden from the client while providing the client assurance that they will not be in violation of an unknown regulation.

DecisionHR has built a winning competitive position by developing close personal relations between its service staff and its clients, by managing with a lean organization, by a strong quality focus, and with committed ownership.  DecisionHR has strong relations with its key vendors, particularly in the critical workers’ compensation marketplace.
